Frequently asked questions

How do you ensure XSQUARE’s automated systems are safe?

Backed by Goldbell Group, we harness over 40 years of material handling equipment domain expertise. We have designed our autonomous forklifts to minimise the need for strenuous physical exertion and human errors so that staff can work more efficiently and focus on higher-level jobs. Our robots have undergone extensive stress tests through myriad scenarios that could potentially occur in an operating environment, with these tests showing that our forklifts can operate safely alongside human operators via high-level obstacle avoidance capabilities. We also provide warehouse operations teams with adequate training to keep them abreast of the latest advancements and in tune with the new autonomous technology.

What is a typical pre-implementation process and timeline?

The process first involves deriving our customer’s problem statement, followed by a careful assessment of their operational and business needs. We then size up the operational environment by gathering information and knowledge about our client’s unique operations, before detailed discussions are made on the most suitable solutions that can be implemented. These discussions revolve around costs, throughputs, benefits, and insights that can be gleaned from our solutions. This process ranges from a week to a month. After our solutions are implemented, we continually collaborate with our clients to finetune their operations where necessary.

How much would I have to invest, and what will the ROI be?

The investment required is dependent on your warehouse’s complexity and scale of implementation, with our customers typically seeing returns on their investments within two to three years (when operating on a 3-shift mode). Apart from the upfront investment in automation technology, the immediate and long-term benefits in terms of increased efficiency, reduced labour costs, and improved customer satisfaction often lead to a faster ROI.

What value does XSQUARE offer, above and beyond other intelligent warehouse solutions providers?

Prior to adopting our solutions, some of our existing customers had a fragmented automation landscape. This means that they tried solutions from different providers that did not work together, due to incompatibility between the technology and legacy products/systems, existing spaces, other automation technology, and manned operations. As a result, they were unable to meet their automation goals. At XSQUARE, we’re driven by our commitment to achieve full interoperability for our clients, allowing them to experience the true benefits of automation. 75% of our team is made up of R&D personnel, keeping us ahead of tech advancements to provide the most effective automation solutions. We continually expand our repository of interoperable subsystems to support the orchestration and execution of tasks across all integrated systems and optimise throughput using various strategies. Our forklifts are also wholly owned, so our customers need not source for solutions from multiple vendors, ensuring the ease of future system maintenance. What sets our robots apart is that they integrate seamlessly with existing warehouse systems with minimal reconfiguration or downtime. They’re also designed to operate in tighter aisle spaces (associated with traditional warehouse layouts) – measuring 15% narrower than mainstream autonomous forklifts. Our solutions have been proven to deliver tangible results, whether in greenfield, brownfield or hybrid operating environments, as demonstrated by our track record of repeated orders from satisfied customers.

Workers being redeployed – is that code for getting rid of workers because of automation?

Our solutions are not designed to replace workers – they’re designed to enable workers to take on higher quality job scopes that will value-add to the entire warehouse operation. Our team is in fact committed to helping staff take on more meaningful roles post-implementation. Proper training is crucial for a smooth transition to automation and to ensure that employees understand and embrace the new technologies and processes. We also support our clients in ongoing training to keep workers abreast of the latest advancements, enabling them to excel in their roles. By embracing automation as a tool to complement human capabilities rather than replace them, businesses can work towards a greater balance between technology and their workforce. In addition, many organisations cannot attract enough workers for their operational needs. In this respect, automation is truly an enabler for business to continue or scale up.
